Work Planner
Position Summary:
The Work Planner will primarily take job information from quotes or estimates and formulate detailed and doable plans that include identifying rigging and related equipment needs, labor / skilled labor requirements, and articulates information needed per job requirements, how to fulfill the job requirements, and aids others in anticipating what successful job outcomes will look like.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plans and schedules comprehensive project timelines for specific work, based off approved estimates or quotes and considers both customer expectations and MEI capabilities.
· Determines necessary resources and assists with allocating resources; plans accordingly for procuring needed equipment and determining available labor.
· Creates job / project budget and work plan and supports field teams to ensure work is completed on time and within budget. Provides feedback from the field team to sales and estimating team to improve the bidding process.
· Looks for efficiencies and works to optimize resources by monitoring trends and recognizing potential bottlenecks or areas where concerns could arise. Assist in the resolution of customer concerns as required.
· Tracks project and job progress, and regularly reports on job completion rates, resource usage, timelines and critical milestones reached.
· Coordinates with Sales, Estimators, Project Managers, and others as necessary for the accurate identification of job specifications.
· Reviews proposals and scope of work information to identify potential stumbling blocks and verify regulatory requirements.
· Participate and/or lead planning meetings; some may be on specific job or customer sites.
· Travel locally to job sites, assist the sales or estimating teams in job walks, and outline scope-of-work information.
· Perform all other duties as necessary or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):
· Completion of vocational training or associate’s degree in construction planning, job estimating, or related degree; bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Minimum of two (2) years of job planning experience necessary.
· Adapts to and quickly addresses changes in timelines, scope of work, available resources and can adopt secondary plans as needed.
· Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; apt at proactive problem identification and problem resolution.
· Knowledge of mathematical concepts including geometry, conversions, and fractional concepts.
· Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, or technical manuals and can incorporate in job planning as required.
· Intermediate knowledge of project management software; understanding of Procore preferred.
· Strong organizational skills and time management skills; is self-directed and motivated with a sense of time urgency.
· Able to communicate complex or technical information effectively and across all levels of staff. Relays information to customer(s), as appropriate.
· Works well under pressure, pays attention to detail and envisions the bigger picture; encourages this from others.
· Intermediate knowledge of related software programs, including MS Office, customer management and project management software, and the ability to quickly learn unique MEI systems.
· Can successfully manage multiple and varying projects simultaneously; demonstrates good time management skills and encourages this with others.
· Good understanding of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words; keeps accurate and legible records, in English.
· Possess a valid driver’s license or have the ability to obtain; must be able to access job sites by successfully passing additional screenings or background checks necessitated by customer access requirements.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Most work will be performed in a normal, climate-controlled office environment. Extended time sitting using a computer, keyboard/mouse, and telephone. Will utilize the senses such as sight and audio; uses lower arm extremities extensively for computer / seated work. Will be exposed to site-specific situations that may include climbing stairs or ladders, crouching / kneeling, walking over uneven or rough terrain, and performing outdoors with exposure to inclement weather. Occasional lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
