Position Summary:
A Millwright is responsible for installing, repairing, and reassembling machinery in factories, construction sites and other industries. The millwright also moves and relocates machinery from site locations.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Installs and maintains machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.
· Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
· Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
· Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, levels, lasers, and plumb bobs.
· Level/ establish centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit.
· Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified items, using portable gas heating equipment.
· Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation site, usually performing installation and maintenance work as part of team.
· Construct foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, grout and/ or steel.
· Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts, adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance and replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
· Ensure assigned work is understood prior to commencing.
· Comply with standards and procedures of MEI’s Health and Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
· Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when required.
· Complete assigned work within given timeframe and according to specifications.
· A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
· Complete required paperwork
· Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
· Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
· Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
· Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools.
· Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
· Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
· Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
· Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines.
· Align, level, and anchor machinery.
· Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools.
· Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.

· Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
· Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
· Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment — running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles.
· Controlling Machines and Processes — using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):
· High School Diploma
· Minimum three (3) years Millwright experience or comparable field experience in the construction service industry
· Valid Driver’s License

Advanced Position Requirements (Millwright 3, Lead Millwright 1, 2, 3)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This is very physical, hands-on work. A Millwright must be able to perform General Physical Activities — activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials up to 50 pounds. Must have the ability to work off the ground at varying heights, and not be affected by moving machinery or parts. Willing and able to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment and/or outdoors in all types of weather, and over uneven ground or terrain.
