Crating Operations Manager

Position Summary:

The Crating Operations Manager position is responsible for supervision of crating and warehouse crews including department management and customer interfacing.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Responsible for all activities of the crating operation from crating department management to scheduling of crews.

· Develops, plans and implements schedules for crating crew in alignment with customer work orders and jobs.

· Directs workforce to meet operational goals in terms of volume, cost, quality, safety, and schedule.

· Directly supervises one or more crating supervisors, leads and crating department drivers.

· Hire, coach, train and manage the performance of crating crew with best management practices.

· Develop, train and instruct crating crews in best known operation practices and procedures with an emphasis on safety.

· Work closely with safety personnel in coordinating safety training, accident and injury investigations and reporting and equipment or property damage incidents investigations and reporting.

· Effectively manage work projects & jobs by organizing all project information to ensure they are accurate and contain all necessary information.

· May participate in selection of company crating equipment assets.

· Direct oversight, purchasing, vendor management and inventory responsibility for crating department materials.

· Facilitate dangerous goods packaging and shipping administration in compliance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) requirements including declarations and maintaining active IATA certification and IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) and DOT 49.CFR (domestic hazardous materials)

· Purchase and upkeep of the day-to-day crating equipment and hand tools.

· Work collectively with local and corporate accounting administration to ensure accurate and timely customer invoices and payments (AR).

· Work closely with the sales team to manage customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management.

· Participate in sales as needed on customer bids/estimates to accurately price projects.

· Actively participate in MEI’s leadership and management meetings as requested.

· Build customer and employee relationships with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Develop highly effective relationships with customers, business partners, rigging operations management and support staff.

· Consistently demonstrates professional conduct representative of MEI corporate mission, vision and values.

· Develops professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

· Consistently gain knowledge regarding industry and market information and trends

· Local travel required for client site meetings and job walks.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):

· High School diploma or equivalent with continuing education in Business, Project or Construction Management or related degree a plus.

· Minimum three (3) years proven operations management experience or comparable field preferably within the construction, manufacturing, warehousing or crating industry.

· Excellent interpersonal, management, supervisory and project management skills.

· Highly self-directed and motivated.

· Ability to use Microsoft Office Applications and other business software (such as Wright Plan/CRM) as needed.

· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to climb, stand; walk; sit; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The Crating Operations Manager is subject to possible exposure to extreme year-round outdoor environmental conditions and may also be subject to working weekends and holidays.
